Centering Survivors, Advancing Economic Justice

Overview

Karl Jays Consulting Ltd supported Amref Health Africa in consolidating and adapting global knowledge and tools on survivor-centered economic empowerment for Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in South Sudan. The assignment focused on addressing the needs of survivors of conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV), helping them rebuild their lives through inclusive, context-sensitive empowerment strategies.

Scope of the Assignment

The consultancy aimed to strengthen the capacity of SHGs and CSOs to deliver survivor-centered economic empowerment programs. Specifically, it involved:

• Conducting a global desk review of evidence, tools, and best practices on survivor-centered approaches in fragile and conflict-affected settings.
• Adapting global models to the South Sudanese context, considering cultural, socio-economic, and political realities.
• Developing a user-friendly, context-adaptable toolkit with training materials and digital resources.
• Facilitating a validation workshop and capacity-building sessions with key stakeholders.
• Designing an M&E framework to track implementation and impact.

Methodology and Impact

Karl Jays employed a participatory and evidence-informed approach, engaging with local stakeholders to ensure relevance and usability. The toolkit was tailored to accommodate varying literacy levels and technological capacities, and the validation workshop provided a platform for feedback and refinement. Training sessions equipped SHGs and CSOs with practical tools to support survivors effectively and sustainably.
